Following Agalons drive a few weeks back was very eager to get back on the sand with the club. Recently put a metal bumper and offroad lights so was very keen to test the lights. Was a first in 2 aspects for me, lead by Abu baker and also night driving. The drive was a mix of fast and flowing desert safari style and some slower technical stuff made harder by the vegetation. The track chosen was perfect to introduce us to night driving, just enough challenge and nice flow. The track to drive at daytime would be pretty comfortable given the training we have had to date. But night driving is a different ball game and the hazards are much harder to see and can be quite a suprise. So IMO perfect track for the start to learn how to drive at night.
I managed to fly the car out of a crest after seeing car in front make a 2nd try, mis read of the dune at night looked flatter. I was thinking i hope Shamsi didnt see that, he did and i heard over the radio ''no flying" lol. Goes to show our founder and marshalls have eagle like vision and they see everything even at night.
Was a small convoy(less is more) which i think we did ok, few 2nd trys but no stucks requiring recovery. Expertly lead by Abu baker with Shamsi multi tasking as rescue support, sweeper and floating marshall aswell as still finding the time to radio communicate and play.
My takeaway from this is emphasis on maintaining distance, got to keep up with the car in front otherwise its very easy to lose the track at night. Radio communication if you start seeing one of your comrades falling back so that the convoy doesnt get disconnected.
Extra caution to hazards as its alot harder to see at night.
As always big thanks for giving us another great drive which im sure everyone enjoyed thoroughly like myself.
