Hi Almosters

Second half of the day, Sweihan desert, Scorpio lead, Rashid and Alshamsi floating.
Scorpio did take us for the usual journey of cresting where he will attempt to do multiple crests on the same ridge back and forth.
Huge learning for all participants despite the challenges we went through including dusty weather and the massive amount of tracks.
Despite all of that, it was a nice trip and good learning.

Few observations on Radio communications, keeping enough distance and most importantly to know when you cannot handle it anymore and taking a decision to leave.

See you soon.

Great drive in the normal Sweihan area being used for interm, from starting point to Nagra. Scorpio leading with Shamsi, Rashid and Abubaker as support.

To be honest I think that difficult to squeeze more of that track than what Scorpio managed, perfect lead, countless switches side to side, great fun even at the back of the convoy where the ride was bumpy at times.

Scorpio said it before the drive, we all know the dunes in that area of Sweihan are medium, this needs to be seen as training for more unforgiving terrain that normally is visited when the weather is more welcoming both to humans and cars.

In my humble opinion the key is practising the lines, in big big dunes power is not enough, you are going to need all the power you can get out of your car in a perfect line, otherwise it will be a losing battle. In a few occasions during the drive you could observe some cars not make the most of the possible lines and not keeping them "clean" which results in losing momentum, sometimes it is just a matter of a few cms in the right direction but it is key to being able to tackle harder obstacles, the good news is that practice makes perfection so a perfect excuse to join more and more drives!!!

Thank you Scorpio for organising and delivering such a beautiful drive, Shamsi, Rashid and Abubaker for the support, and all of the rest of the convoy for attending and making it possible!!!

See you on the sand soon!!!

Hi everyone,

This was not a normal interm drive but something different. With @Scorpio leading interm drives you don’t normally miss at all the trill of an advance drives especially when directly following up as second lead. But let’s start from the beginning…

Expected short convoy that did not stop growing day by day ending up into a nice numerous convoy in a very well-know area. My expectation before the drive got started was like a “walk in the park” Psmiley but as normally happen, I was completely mistaken.

I volunteered myself for a second lead, still I don’t know why but I did it brigade.baka-wolf.com , and Scorpio gently accepted my offer. I did not know at this time what was about to come…Long convoy lined-up with @Mabubaker and @Rashidjass looking after, @David , @Ehab and @orlantsev at the back and founder @alshamsi taking care of us all.

Sweihan’s area is normally chewed up at afternoon time so no surprises on that however, Scorpio cool found the way to conquer untouched dunes mainly after crossing the power lines. And the pace and lines he drafted were “almost” perfect, not leaving anything behind, only preventing himself from attaching some big and difficult dunes when level was about to be advanced. Even though some areas were already a bit compromised, he found golden lines extremely enjoyable at the front of the convoy…I was told that at the back it was a bit bumpy. Sorry for you guys… brains...!

Following his lead was pure joy, learning a lot about his driving style (not new to me but worth getting reminded from time to time) and doing my job the best I could, trying to keep the convoy safe by making small corrections once ditches or bushes were about to call for a pop-out, keeping an eye on the rear mirror alerting once I could not see anybody behind me or even one or two cars behind me, etc.

This being said, I should also recognize that I was not able to follow him 100% of the time melt
and needed to make small detours reconnecting the convoy on the safest way possible when making second tries or exiting on the wrong side of the dune. To my defence, I would say that it is hard to follow a Marshal all the time with no mistakes once he/she is on steroids cool which was the case last Sat.

With all that, I would like to express my gratitude to all Marshals, founder, advance & intem fellas for a lovely drive.

See you soon.
Carlos
