I know better than to tinker with the wife's stuff. That is why I don't have any working experience with moding the FJ. I have fixed things, but kept all originals. After all, saftey is first

If you want to put a remote switch to turn on/off a OEM fuse. In my experience its always better to install a relay. Take a normal 5pin relay and put install extensions with male ends. Insert those male ends into the fuse holder.

Then install a inline fuse (same amp as the fuse you removed) to the other side of the relay and then run a cable into the dashboard with a basic toggle switch and have the other end grounded out to the chassis.

When its done it will look a little like this

let me tell you my experiences with regards to FJ, its traction aids and the ABS.

When I had a 2008 FJ whenever i went off road I would have to open the hood and take out the fuse that controlled the traction aids so as to diable them, this also cancelled the ABS. The downside to this was that I was never able to use the A TRAC on the FJ as the fuse was out so never enjoyed the wonders of A TRAC on the 2008.

Got my 2010 FJ and was delighted with the switches on the dash that allowed me to disable the traction aids without removing any fuses. This meant that the A TRAC was active and available in 4 LO to use at will and i really got to have so much fun with the A TRAC....hardly ever need third party recovery when stuck now !

Now the only drwawback is that the traction aids get switched off but the ABS stays active and the only time it switches off is when you are in 4 Low and using A Trac. Have been looking at setting up a individual switch to disconnect the ABS independantly of other systems but have still to find the ideal solution.

In the meantime try to apply the brake gradually so the ABS doesnt kick in too much ! Thats it for now

There is a hack switch for 2008 model that disables all the electronics like the fuse, but without the need to open the hood, or turn the car off and on again, whenever you want to enable the Atrac or the diff lock, just put it on 4L and MAGIC, you are sorted, that's why I prefer the 2008 model more, as I couldn't find a solution like that in the newer versions.

if anyone needs more details about the hack switch, let me know and I will post it, otherwise I don't want to hack the subject more :p

Dear DL, I understand that you have safety as a paramount concern & hence you donot want to tinker with your wife's car. I was just wondering whose safety are you really talking about 'hers' or 'YOURS' :011: !
