Hi, i am quite aware of the 'technology' of 'behind the dune' toilets and am game to using them! However on a serious note I would like to know how do we handle this morning toilet issue during our camps, especially if there are ladies camping. Its important to know since I intend to bring my family etc for camping. Do we drive to the nearest gas station in the morning for freshening up?
Normally, we are trying to have our camps close to some standard facilities, but it is not always possible. The usual practice is that we advice families or ladies to built their sleeping location far away from others and in the morning to drive somewhere, behind the dunes, to have privacy. It depends on the off-roader skills, of course, not to get stuck on his way. Eventually he can call for help over the radio. This is another reason, why the radio is important in the desert.

Oh boy this is getting interesting with every comment
Miles2smiles - you're going to the desert! Turn your survival switch on, boy... Also, consider sleeping in your car, not wasting money with tents...
I believe a comfortable night sleep is a must to be able to face the dunes in the morning I'll spend some nickles to get basic camping gear and if that doesn't work out I always have my baby monster to keep me warm and safe :)
It's not a real camp with groceries, restaurants and other facilities. We are off-roaders.
What you need to bring? ........anything you can buy, except the sand.
Point noted Capri Thanks

I think he withdrew because of my comment and is now simmering in his own thoughts about lending his car to Dania for the Pink Scorpion drive... :015:

What do you mean "having 2nd thoughts"?!?! Why would you have those? Camel and Fida bring their wives and children all the time... :032:
Any female driver or passenger can, at any time, ask me to take her further down during camping / stop breaks, or out of convoy if while we are driving. If I am not around, I am sure that any other more experienced female driver will also be more than willing to help. During convoy, I can be asked over radio to approach the car and Marshals are normally kind enough to let me separate for a few minutes if there is no safety issue.
Most of the time we do not have too much of a hassle. It can be a bit annoying when we are menstruating, but it's pretty much the same process we do the rest of the time: take paper / wet wipes / water and a plastic bag for all the non-human remains (e.g. used paper, pads/tampons).
Many times we camp not too far from a petrol station, but don't expect anywhere to have a shower or have a clean toilet...
Some people have this little water sprayer that they use for their morning clean-up, as well as for before prayers, if we are camping / driving really far away (e.g. Liwa weekend).

Moucef - are you Sarookh's wife? Perhaps you would like to join our Pink Scorpion instead?
